Special Events/Lectures

12 HOUR ~ AKHANDA JAPA

If you wish to participate, please call the Center to sign-up for a specific time slot.Or call with questions. (414.273.1621)

Pot Luck Dinner to follow at 6:00 pm. Please bring a dish to pass. All are welcome.

This is a meditation practice for 12 consecutive hours, shared by individual participants who sign-up to sit for a designated time slot. If each meditator sits for 1 hour, then 12 people are needed to fill the time 6am - 6pm. You may also sign-up for a ½ hr segment. Accordingly,
more people will be needed to complete the practice. The first meditator arrives early enough for preparation to begin mediatation at 6am. Each consecutive meditator should arrive 5-10 minutes early to get seated and begin meditation. Please allow for a brief overlap between the
new person coming in and the one who is about to leave.

One meditator, initiated in this tradition, must be doing the practice at all times; but any person is welcome to join to do their own personal meditation throughout the 12 hours. If you are an 'Initiate' in this tradition, we hope you will use this opportunity to enhance our practice. Akhanda Japa is beneficial to each participant and to the Center as a whole. However, it is not done for any desired goal or thought of "What I can get from it". This is a practice without desire.
All the fruits of this Meditation are surrendered to the Divine.

Week 1 - Freeing the Structures of the Breath (required for the other 3 parts)
Thursday, April 15 7:00 - 9:00pm
The practice of breath techniques can be limited by restriction in abdominal musculature, diaphragm, and ribcage mobility. They can also be part of a routine to increase breath capacity for athletics as well as for pulmonary rehabilitation.

Week 2 - Mastering the Pause
Thursday, April 22 7:00 - 8:30pm
Learn the tips for mastering a perfectly smooth breath. Techniques that will be taught as part of this three part series are diaphragmatic breathing, differential control of the levels of abdominal muscles, nadishodanam, kapalabhati, ujjayi (chest breath version), and differential control of intercostal muscles.

Week 3 - Muscle Control for Pranayama

Week 4 - Agni Sara and Nauli, Keys to Vitality
Thursday, May 13 7:00 - 8:30pm
